The reading for this week was incredibly useful. I admit I have read Learn Enough Command Line to Be Dangerous prior to taking this course -- actually it was about a year ago I began reading it and never took the opportunity to complete it (stopped halfway through chapter 3 because life just got too busy!!). It was nice to come back to it and review what I had learned and to proceed further into the materials. Previously I read this book using my Mac for the terminal assignments/practices, but with this course I have been using it with my Virtual Box Linux instead.
The other reading I liked too! In fact, I downloaded the digital copy because it would be a handy manual to have accessible when you are playing with your Linux (which I have actually installed on an old desktop I received from a friend who was going to trash it anyways). I like that there were charts made for reference and the organization of the material. It will be easy to navigate through and find what I need.
A lot of what was in the reading was some of what we have read before with a few new pieces. It went into more depth on subjects like grep, more, less, navigation through the bash shell/terminal... Command Line is a very powerful tool. You can accomplish many tasks within the shell that sometimes cannot be accomplished from any program or application on the OS.
I didn't find myself confused on any part of the reading. It went along smoothly. I am also taking NET145, which also covers Linux OS, so sometimes I try to remember what I learned in this class versus the other. They compliment one another and help give a deeper understanding of the Linux system -- so much that I am excitedly booting it onto that old desktop as we speak!
Til next time!
